Trump Leads the World Right

Japan’s Conservative Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, won a landslide victory after calling snap elections just 3 months after entering office.  Her party alone won its largest ever majority.  Takaichi is pro-U.S., has already forged a strong relationship with President Trump and pledged to ramp up defense spending.

Latin America is also turning right.  Conservative Laura Fernandez was elected President of Costa Rica this month. In 2025, Chileans voted in conservative Jose Antonio Kast as President, Nasry Asfura, whom Trump publicly supported, was elected President of Honduras, and Bolivia ended two decades of socialist rule with the election of President Rodrigo Paz. Argentina’s Libertarian leader, Javier Milei, cemented his hold on power in a crucial midterm election in October.

Looking forward, a right-wing candidate is expected to win Peru’s presidential election in April and Conservatives are vying for power in elections later this year in Brazil and Colombia, which are ruled by left-wing presidents.
