In addition to implementing a brand-new air traffic control system by the end of 2028, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) needs to hire thousands of new Air Traffic Controllers. Like all of the Trump Administration, DOT Secretary Sean Duffy is thinking (and looking) outside the box for solutions.
They polled a random sample of 250 at the Oklahoma City Air Traffic Control Training Facility and found that only 3 of them were NOT gamers. Turns out many of the skills necessary for success are the same: problem solving, spatial awareness, keeping track of several things at once …..
So, they reached out to the gaming community and hit the jackpot! They received 12,000 applications in 24 hours; 11,000 of those were qualified and they have already sent 8000 to get their skills tested.
