– Public Charter Schools have proven success in educating poor kids. The problem is their teachers often do not belong to either the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) or the National Education Association (NEA). These unions are much more concerned with increasing membership and dues than they are in successfully educating America’s youth. Rather than try to learn from Charter Schools’ success, they actively oppose them.
– Far-Left Indoctrination. The AFT and NEA are more concerned with indoctrinating kids than teaching them reading, writing and arithmetic. Teachers have weaponized classrooms for their own left-wing agenda, actively encouraging middle and high school students to protest against ICE and other things the left hates.
–Wages and Benefits. San Francisco teachers recently kept kids home for a week to go on strike for increased wages. Their salaries already start at $80,000 and average close to $100,000. As a further insult to hard-working parents, they can retire at age 63 with a pension worth 85% of their final pay and get free health benefits for life.
–What can be done? We need to dismantle and defang the unions. Congress should revoke the NEA’s federal charter or at the very least pass a law barring political activities if they want to keep it. (98% of the NEA’s political donations go to Democrats!)
Congress should also continue to decentralize education and let funding follow the child. This empowers families to choose schools that align with their values — not the unions’ radical playbook.
Trump’s top education priority — nationwide school choice — passed in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Already, 27 governors have opted into the federal tax credit scholarship program which puts power back in the hands of families. MAGA!
